I finally did it!

I know to some that have been on here a while, you may think this is a small step, but to me it is very big. I have finally posted by first logline and script Devil Beneath on here. It's a unique action packed creature feature. It's close to my heart as I grew up watching creature features with my p...

Represented by an agent!!!!!!!

I'm sure I was burning the midnight oil from day one....my script has been on the market for maybe 3 months....I woke up today with an email from a Beverly Hill's based talent agency offering to represent me...so I said YEEEEEEEEEES...#illbedoggonemovie #grindliketodayistheday

Kevin Hager

I have, but heard nothing from them.

Maurice Vaughan

You can search for a writing partner in the Browse Members Section, Kevin Hager (www.stage32.com/people?name=&location=&roles=Screenwriter). I suggest adding a profile picture. I think it'll help you...

Hello from Ohio! Where one minute its spring and the next it's snowing and 17 degrees again.

I am a self published author and have written several scripts over the years, but yet to sell any. I refuse to give up and have promised myself this is my year! The script I am currently editing is a creature feature think of Jaws with a twist. It's a story close to my heart as I grew up watching th...

The weather in North Carolina is up and down too, Tammy, but no snow in Greenville. Your creature feature sounds exciting. "Jaws" with a twist. Are you preparing to pitch it?

Tammy Meadows

Thank you Douglas for the encouragement!

Tammy Meadows

Maurice I am getting closer, working on correcting a few things I decided I didn't like but then yes it will be ready to pitch. That scares me as I have never done that before.

Sam Sokolow

Great to meet you here in the community, Tammy! I’m the Director of Education here at Stage 32. If I can ever recommend any of our education or be of any help on your Stage 32 journey please email me at edu@stage32.com.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Tammy Meadows. I second what Sam Sokolow said. Stage 32 has great education on pitching. Hope your pitch goes great! I'm cheering for you! :D...

Sub-plots???

So this is what's going on: I write to hit a certain number of pages. For eg, I have to get a certain amount of story done till page 30 to complete act 1.

Now here's the problem: Sometimes I run out of things to write. I think, "huh? I could wrap up that scene in lesser number of pages." So this make...

Its difficult to keep sub-plots in check. Mapping out your A,B and C story lines is always a good way to keep a handle on everything and make sure none of the sub-plots get out of hand.

I find when I am in this position that something in the subplots is disconnected. Your subplots should have a thematic, at least, connection to the A story and then they can criss-cross or converge.

Eric Sollars

Right on, Louisa.

Vanshdeep Singh

Whoa! Never thought about Sub-plots and the 3-Act structure in this light. Thank You So Much Guys :D

BTW I really like Sarit's idea of mapping the story line and then writing C in. I was overwhelmed doing all at once. :)

Book to Screen

Does anyone have any good practices of taking your book and turning it into a script? I know many movies are not true to the books, killing off different characters even. I would like to know if any of you have any hints.

I'm currently working on a series adapted from a novel. A series is a little different then a feature, but the process is similar IMO.

I would suggest you start by finding the "beats" in the novel, ide...

My suggestion would be to read Babette's Feast (Karen Blixen) and then watch the movie (Bille August). It is a close to perfect transfer of a book to a movie.

One more thing to consider, my opinion only.

Ever story has its perfect form. Perhaps it is meant to be a novel

The Curse of the Sneaky Typos

Am i alone here in the belief that typos afflict screenwriters like annoying gnats?  They always seem to pop up no matter how many times you reread your own script. Spell check can't catch them all because occasionally, when typing fast your typo might be an accurate word in the dictionary.  Like me...

Hi Paul,

Yeah...the one you mentioned is of the homophone typo variety. I critique/proofread scripts for some people and usually find at least 100 homophone typos, and sometimes over 200. "An, and", "h...

Never rely on spell check. I worked as an editor for years, and still find it difficult to catch my own typos.

Christine Capone

Yes! I've read my script a 100 times and am still missing typos. That is why I have it proofread.

Christine Capone

I noticed that I put the wrong character's name in dialogue. She was basically commenting about herself when it was suppose to be someone else. I've submitted it so it kinda sucks. I'm hoping that the story is strong enough for them to overlook this error.

Christine Capone

Thanks Dan!
