Valerie Hager is a "not to be missed" (NoHo LA) award-winning actor, improviser, and movement artist. She has appeared in film and TV including WarnerBrothers' The Invention of Lying with Ricky Gervais, Comedy Central's, Mind of Mencia, Discovery Channel's Guilty or Innocent, and the award-winning short film The Harshest Place.
Her theatrical performances include Dracula at Symphony Space, The Ensemble Workshop at LAByrinth Theater, Meet the Lady at 92Y, and many others.
Valerie's third solo show, Naked In Alaska is a five-star Fringe sold out HIT! Naked In Alaska won the "Overall Excellence Award" for Solo Performance in FringeNYC 2013 and "Audience Favorite Award" in the Chicago Fringe. Immediately after Valerie toured with great success to Santa Fe, New Mexico and in 2014 with much acclaim Naked In Alaska returned to NYC for an Off-Off Broadway Limited Run at The Celebration of Whimsy where she was featured in Time Out New York's recommended Off-Off list. Naked In Alaska held an Off-Broadway debut at 59E59 Theatre's East to Edinburgh Festival with sold out shows July 2014. Most recently, Naked In Alaska took home a "Pick of The Fringe" in The International Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2014.
Valerie and her solo show Naked In Alaska have also been featured as an Editorial cartoon in The New Yorker, a featured full front page in The Daily News, rated top five sexiest events of the week and Critic's Pick by Time Out New York and had a featured story in The Sun-Times..
Valerie has studied dramatic acting with Ivana Chubbuck,Tony Greco, Jeffrey Tambor, and Cinda Jackson of The Loft Studio. She is a graduate of the LAByrinth Theater Master Class.
Masterful in comedy as much as in drama, Valerie has studied improv at Upright Citizen's Brigade (UCB), The PIT, and Second City. She is a graduate of Bang Comedy Theatre's five-level improv program and has performed throughout Los Angeles with her improv group George.
Valerie began performing as a child alongside her father, mime artist Jerry Hager, as his silent sidekick Punky the Clown. Her earliest training came from her father in the form of mime, movement, and the art of storytelling. Later, she continued to train in mime and movement under Rick Wamer at The School for Mime at Kenyon College and Lorin Salm at Mime Theatre Studio.
An improv, acting, and creative movement teacher in Los Angeles and New York, Valerie teaches for renowned arts and outreach organizations including Lifetime Arts, Wingspan Arts, and Elders Share the Arts. She earned her teaching artist certifications from New York City's Community-Word Project and the Mark DeGarmo Teaching Artist Institute. Valerie lives New York City.
