Michael Capodiferro is a storyteller who can hear. Raised by two Deaf parents on the east coast, he grew up fluent in both English and ASL (American Sign Language). Michael is a first generation CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), which is a whole subculture in itself. Deafness has a culture too, uniquely separate from the hearing world. Often he would take up the role as the bridge, the translator between worlds. This experience has given him a unique voice, perspective, and empathy. In his work he is acutely sensitive to stories that need to be told and heard.
After studying Dramatic Writing for Film and Theatre at Hampshire College, he quickly got in on the ground floor of storytelling in Hollywood. For 3 years, Michael worked as the Executive Assistant to Joan Scheckel and her Filmmaking Labs. Her influence has touched hundreds of features, shorts, and episodics: Beginners (Executive Producer), Transparent (Consulting Producer), I Love Dick (Producer), Eve (Executive Producer), and the upcoming Farnsworth House (Executive Producer). As Joan’s sole assistant, Michael has undergone intensive, exclusive, and rigorous training as a creator and an executive. As part of the experience, he was welcomed into each of Joan’s Labs as a full on participant, deepening his training and education.
Michael approaches his art as a humanitarian; with a genuine curiosity and care for people. He tells stories from the point-of-view that we all deserve to be loved, sharing that thought with all who will listen.
