About Sofia
Sofia Nikiforova (born August 21, 1988) is a theatre actress and film director from Saint-Petersburg. After stydying Russian Literature at the Saint-Petersburg State University, she’s been accepted into the Saint-Petersburg Theatre Academy. In 2014 she became an actress of the new «young troup» of Lensovet’s Saint-Petersburg Academic Theatre, headed by Yuriy Butusov.
During the period from 2014 to 2017, the Lensovet Studio got a lot of popularity and awards because of their performances. Sofia plays Helena Weigel in «Cabaret Brecht» (musical by texts of B. Brecht and songs by K.Weil; directed by Y. Butusov, 2014), the Fox in «The Wonderful Adventures of Nils» (M. Romanova, 2015), Henryk in «Wedding» (by the same play of V. Gombrovich; directed by B. Koc, 2016), Elena in «The Sheakspeare’s Room» (by the «Midsummer Night’s Dream» of W. Shakespeare; directed by Y. Butusov, 2016) and many others. For three years, Sofia played about 20 plays.
In 2015 she studied the Filmmaking at NYFA (Florence) and started to experiment with video in her theatre works. The last two years Sofia creates her first documentaries.

Documentary by Sofia Nikiforova Director In the summer of 2016, Moscow's biggest park, VDNH, organised a three-day festival of performative arts. Each day was dedicated to a different art form: Theater, Dance & Music. This documentary film is about the "Dance Day". From the beginning of the rehearsal period a film crew followed over 200 choreographers and dancers around the park during the creation, development and delivery of around 60 different dance performances. Throughout the film we alternate between intimate creation moments of the artists and the vastness of the VDNH park, were Dance meets Nature in a raw but still poetic way.
