Dennis was born in Detroit, Michigan, in December 1948. He received a Bachelors Degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1971 and completed an additional year of graduate school there. He then moved from Michigan to Maryland after being hired by the Department of Defense. While employed, he completed his Masters Degree on a part-time basis.
From 1980-1982, he attended an institute in Germany that focused on a variety of aspects of Sovietology -- history, economics, political science, geography, Russian language comprehension and composition, and more.
At the Department of Defense, he worked as a line analyst, a manager, and an instructor. Retiring after 32 years, he went to work with a number of defense contract agencies on various defense-related project.
In his latter years at DoD, he began studying the art of screenwriting and team-wrote his first script in the late 1990's. Taking on-line coursework as well as attending the McKee Seminar on Story, he strived to improve his understanding of story/script structure. His analytic background and intuitive grasp of story enabled him to take on part-time work for a short period of time as a script reader. His analyses and story development notes were considered to be extremely professional and helpful to new writers.
He resides in Annapolis, Maryland, with his wife, Kathy, and is the father of two terrific sons, Nick and Dave.
