An orphaned teen sent to live with his uncle struggles to find acceptance and purpose then he awakens a derelict trolley with supernatural powers that unites his extended family but divides their community.
SYNOPSIS:
Opening
Nightmare of a car crash in which hero Nick House loses his parents. He awakes at his Uncle Ray’s home in Honolulu. Ray drives Nick to his first day of college where he meets Malia Aku and her angry gang-banger brother, Kimo. While working at a Waikiki hotel, Ray is intrigued by a tourist trolley when a friend leads him to a junkyard trolley in need of restoration. Meanwhile, Nick and Malia are falling in love while spending a surf day in Waikiki. They meet up with Ray and return home to his girlfriend Jasmine Dela Cruz cooking dinner where they discover the broken down trolley in the driveway.
Inciting Incident
Ray reveals his plan to refurbish the trolley with Nick’s help when his eccentric neighbors volunteer to help them. Once complete, a priest christens the trolley then a local kapuna blesses the vehicle resulting in it producing sparks, bright lights, and noises.
Act1 - Turning Point
The next day Nick and Malia are on the trolley’s maiden drive with unhappy kids from a charity to the beach. While playing the audio system, the trolley begins erupting a plasma of lights, rainbows, hearts, and musical notes. This supernatural phenomenon results in the kids becoming joyous and playful. Nick and Malia are initially frightened but quickly see how the magical event positively affects the kids. Nick teaches an orphaned child Leilani to swim. Unsure of what they encountered, they don’t speak of the event with Ray or Jasmine. The next day brings a similar result happens when PTSD veterans ride the trolley and the experience transforms them into extroverted, positive people.
Mid-Point
Ray and Jasmine reveal their painful pasts while Malia’s brother Kimo plots his plan to keep his sister from Nick at all costs. Authorities impound the trolley and arrest Nick for owning a potentially dangerous vehicle.
Act 2 - Turning Point
Nick is arraigned in his first court appearance to find authorities want to shut down his upstart business. Nick becomes a media favorite as they cover his expanding trial and YouTube leaks of his magic trolley. An EPA investigator is green slimed by the trolley. The prosecutor attacks Nick’s witnesses (Hawaiian shaman, military veteran, orphaned child) putting his trial is in jeopardy. Nick testifies that the trolley is helpful to people and suggests the entire court go ride on it.
Crisis
Kimo threatens his sister Malia and boyfriend Nick. Nick and Malia are questioned by police while parking on a mountain road lookout. Kimo burns down the trolley. Ray delivers bad news to Nick. The next morning the courtroom is chaotic and Nick is missing. He has gone to the auto impound to inspect the burnt-out trolley. Kapuna Kaimana appears and blesses the trolley again resulting in the reconstitution into the restored vehicle. He heads to court to prove the trolley is magical.
Climax
The judge, jury, and Ray’s neighbors ride the trolley and the phenomenon happens again. Clouds of rainbows, hearts, and stars fly out of the top of the trolley. The judge dismisses Nick’s case but with stipulations, he must get himself and the trolley legal for business. Crowds of cheering people line the street during the trolley parade.
Resolution
Three months later Nick and Malia are driving the trolley over the Pali Highway. Kimo in a car with his motorcycle gang attacks them. A dangerous downhill chase ensues with Kimo crashing and being arrested. The trolley pops back into shape with Nick and Malia unhurt.
Final Page
At Waikiki Beach, Ray and Jasmine are married by Father Murphy and Kapuna Kaimana among a huge wedding party of friends. The orphaned child Leilani is being adopted by Ray and Jasmine after they are officially married. Ray and Jasmine drive off in the trolley while Nick, Malia, and Leilani go swimming in the ocean during sunset
