Hi Cailin - Bob Here. How are you doing. Did the move work out for you?
Hi Cailin - Bob Here. How are you doing. Did the move work out for you?
I'm moving to Atlanta in the next month or so, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any resources there for screenwriters. Here in Ohio we have COGS (Central Ohio Group for Screenwriters), and the UK has Sitcom Circle; would Atlanta have any screenwriting groups?
I'm moving to Atlanta in the next month or so in the hopes of finding a job in film/television. Would anyone have any suggestions on places in Atlanta I should look into? I'm hoping for something like Development Assistant, but anything to do with writing/producing would be ideal, or any assistant position. Thought I'd ask around - thanks!
I'm in Atlanta actually, I might have some ideas. Let's connect.
Have previous experience. Atlanta is importing experienced crew. Or contact the commission and get listed as an intern or PA.
I was wondering if anyone knew a way to contact the Bad Wolf production company? They're relatively new, based in both Wales and Los Angeles, and I've been trying to see if they are open for internships, especially since they just announced their first show (His Dark Materials). I'm a huge fan of film noir, and I've seen Double Indemnity, The Maltese Falcon, and Out of the Past. Could anyone give me suggestions of other good films noirs (my French is rusty, sorry, but I think that's the right spelling) to watch? I'm also writing one myself right now, so this counts as research! :P
Okay. I've seen LA Confidential, Memento, and Fight Club and really liked all of them. Does Chinatown count as neo noir?
Chinatown does count. looks like you're already familiar with neo noir, good luck!
oh, NIGHTCRAWLER!
My dad's side of the family has quoted the Godfather movies my whole life. My favorite line: "Leave the gun...Take the cannoli." I've heard that that line may have been improvised, which would be awesome, but whether it was or not, for just six words it says a lot!

I thought this website would be a great place to meet people who love film and television as much as I do, and whose experiences I could learn from as well. I'm very passionate about writing drama for television - I adore shows like Sherlock, Doctor Who, Firefly, Agent Carter, etc. - and hope to one day (it's a long way off, I know!) be show runner for my own television drama. As I'm just starting out in the industry, I'd also appreciate any advice from people more experienced in screenwriting, or just film/TV in general. Cheers! :)
Sounds great! Will do :)
You right Cailin, this is the place to be, stage 32, so welcome.
Welcome Cailin!

I'll be based in NY, and will travel to LA. (Viacom also runs Paramount Pictures, MTV and Nickelodeon). They love creative employees, and my producing and writing work helped me land the job, so I am more than thrilled!
Congratulations! I'm sure it's well deserved.
Congratulations! Much success to you.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch... :-)

Expand commentHi! It was a very educational two years. Because of my health and finances I've had to move back to Ohio for a little while, but I accomplished a lot in Atlanta - worked a little as a PA, was a finalist in two competitions for one of my pilot scripts, got an agent, but eventually parted ways when he didn't have my best interests in mind, was a writer on an indie pilot - and now that I'm more informed about the film industry, I'm hoping to save up and move out to Los Angeles sometime next year, fingers crossed! How are you?

Also, sorry to hear about your health and financal issues but great news on the competitions and agent (even if the latter turned out to be rather rogue and unreliable) . For myself, although I am still writing I am making this year, my year of getting things produced - see my blog here

With hindsight i should have embarked on this years ago but II recommend this to you now as I think producers nowadays expect writers to have skin in the game so do start thinking about what you might do to get things produced as a way of showing a greater range of other skills along with your writing.
I bought a 4k camera in the Summer and hope to convert a couple of my short screenplays into films in the Spring. Right now I am producing (and soon to be directing) my comedy farce (stage play) which has a 2 week run at a theatre in West London. We auditioned cast this week which was great and i am about to send out contracts to them tomorrow - hopefully, if it washes its face (doesn't lose money) , I will reinvest my money in another play later in 2019 or perhaps a series of shorts that might result in a feature. The great thing is that I will end up with a writing credit, production and directing credit which will open doors to other opportunities so do consider doing something similar that will get you noticed. Okay, gonna sign off. Keep well and all the best for LA! Bob
Congrats on your play! That must be so exciting! :) And I will definitely keep your advice in mind - I've been thinking about giving film editing a shot, so maybe that's what I'll try next!
