Ian Hannah

I am an aspiring filmmaker and student at the University of Portland, planning on graduating in May 2018 with a B.A. in English.

I have been pursuing my interest in film on the side since taking a video production class in my freshman year in high school. I couldn't pay for film school, so I decided to pursue a degree in storytelling (i.e. Literature) in the hopes that it would provide me with a strong foundation upon which to build my technical skills. Currently, most of my experience has been in editing, including a couple of freelance pieces and school projects, but most notably with Portland Sports Network, where I have worked since September, 2015. I have also done some work as a camera operator/cinematographer for them.

As I have yet to focus fully on film production, I am still fairly inexperienced. However, I think that my best assets right now are my drive and my instincts. I taught myself everything I know about filmmaking through online videos and articles, and by creating and watching my own projects, and I will work endlessly to make my work the highest quality possible. I also have an inherent sense for the rhythm and pacing in a scene, which has manifested itself most notably in my editing abilities, which have progressed rapidly over the past few years. More recently, I have begun to figure out how to utilize these instincts in my writing, and I hope learn how to do the same on set in the near future.

For the time being, I am looking for any opportunity to practice my craft at any stage of production. Whether it is pursuing my creative ambitions, or just paying the bills, I put my all into every task put in front of me, looking to build my portfolio and reputation in any way possible.
