Showreel Tips

Hello all, I'm sorry if this question has been asked a hundred times before. I'm in the process of making a showreel and was looking for some input as to what format it should take. I looked online and found the most common form is a montage style. The montage seems OK but it doesn't really tell you...

I agree with Stephan I think full scenes would give context and demonstrate the editing. Perhaps 2 or 3 scenes from different works totaling about 10 minuets.

Hi Mark, that's interesting. From the so called tutorials I have seen and as well as other sample reels the length shouldn't be longer then 1 minute to 1 and a half minutes. Although I do like the idea of a 10 minute reel as it would give you alot of space for creative editing.

What NLE do you use?

Hey all! I'm just curious what types of NLE's you use and what style projects you cut on it? I'm personally a Final Cut and AVID person, but am curious what my fellow cutters use. Have a good day!

Stefan LaToure

Hey Kevin. I use FCP7, Premiere CC, and just started working on DaVinci Resolve.

Diego Gagliardi

I use PP CC which integrates perfectly with After Effects

Mark Birks

I tend to use HitFilm because of the integrated composition feature

Arthur Harrison

Hey Kevin, I use a mixture of FCP X, PP CC and Avid. Mainly PP for any corporate work or projects that require lots of different source footage to be edited quickly. I also work at a post-house and use Avid there as that is what most of the broadcast editors use there.
