A rich Texan want to buy a Colorado ranch for oil shale development. The woman who owns it has a daughter who doesn’t want her to sell it. Who wins out – the Texan or the daughter? Who celebrates the most at the New Year’s Eve party? Country/Western feel to music.
SYNOPSIS:
The play takes place between Christmas and New Years
T. D. Rogers, from Houston, Texas, is on his way to Grand Junction to try to buy a ranch owned by Mrs. H. L. (Peggy) Wright. He wants to start an oil shale development. Bad weather forces him to stop at a ski lodge in Vail for the night. It is a few days before Christmas. In Vail he meets Lottie, Janet and Wayne. Lottie is Peggy’s niece. Lottie and Janet are missing their boyfriends, Frank and Joe, who have been on a trip prospecting for gold. Wayne’s girl, Elisa, has run off with Buck. When Lottie finds out that T. D. wants to buy her aunt’s ranch, she decides to go to Grand Junction to stop her aunt from selling.
T. D. stops in Rifle, Co. to visit oil shale retorts there and meets Frank and Joe who have decided to give up gold prospecting and go back to Junction. T. D. offers them jobs with him. Elisa, Wayne’s girl, is waiting on tables at the restaurant in Rifle. Having been beaten by Buck she has run away from him. Buck shows up again and a fight follows with Frank and Joe running Buck off. They offer to take Elisa with them to Grand Junction.
Lottie, Janet and Wayne arrive at Lottie’s Aunt Peggy’s and are helping her get ready for a New Year’s Eve party. T. D. shows up and he and Peggy hit it off. Then Frank, Joe and Elisa show up. All couples end up together and T. D. and Peggy decide to get married and continue to run the ranch. They all celebrate with a New Year’s Eve party. They all agree Grand Junction is the best place to live.
