After saying goodbye to his parent, the young man leaves the suburbs of Chicago in search of work in the city. There he unexpectedly meets the gold digger and adventurer Nick Gordon. While talking in a bar, they are suddenly attacked by armed bandits. Nick and Wilkie run away. One of the bullets overtakes Gordon.
Once out of danger, Nick passes out from blood loss. And doesn't come into yourself anymore. And after some time, in one of the pockets of his former comrade in misfortune, Wilkie discovers a document according to which its new owner becomes the owner of a rich gold mine.
Gradually, the action is transferred to the "Institute of Geology", where one of the main characters Nikolai Yursky works as a graduate student of the department, which until recently was headed by Ph.D. Artemiev. But a year ago, the scientist disappeared without a trace. He disappears after he finds an incredibly rich gold deposit in Siberia, and a corrupt criminal gang learns about his unique find. The gang starts hunting for Artemiev. But all attempts to put pressure on the scientist do not give any results. He refuses to reveal the secret of the Green Valley to the gangsters.
At the same time, the young scientist Yursky, a student of Artemiev, finds himself under the heel of an unscrupulous official from science, the rector of the Institute of Geology, Severkov. Through him, corrupt people find a unique gold deposit. But Artemiev and Yursky do not give up without a fight.
In parallel with the main storyline, it tells about the fate of the American owner of the gold mines, Wilkie Farmer, who finds his happiness with a Russian girl from the provinces. By the will of fate, she ends up in prison. Thus, the action is transferred to the camp for prisoners.
New characters appear on the scene, such as the head of the prison, Leonid Sahar, and his guards. Everyone is looking for gold. The conflict between the plunderers of natural resources and the true citizens of their Fatherland is gradually escalating. Wilkie Farmer and his wife Jane Smith are drawn into it, who, like the scientist Artemiev, knows the location of a unique gold deposit. In exchange for this information, Jane is promised a meeting with her son. Fate separated them many years ago.
The tension rises when the action is transferred to the Siberian taiga.
A jailer Sahar, pursuing a selfish goal, takes in captivity geologists and bandits. He orders the soldiers to kill them. In exchange for the lives of the geologists, the Yursky offers to Sahar vast reserves of gold in the Green Valley.
He deliberately leads Severkov, Sahar and the bandits in the opposite direction from the Green Valley. Guessing this, the bandits shoot through both palms of the geologist. Taking advantage of the situation, they at the same time kill the Sahar's soldiers in order to take possession of the helicopter on which the jailer and his soldiers arrived into the taiga.
Taking the bags of gold, Severkov and the bandits order to Sahar to deliver them toward the helicopter to go to the mainland. But their plans are not destined to come true.
Yursky, Nastya and Taezhnik return to the forest hut and tell the geologists about the insidious plans of Severkov and the bandits. Without delay, the geologists go to the Sheer Rock, where the camp of criminals is located, in order to interfere with their plans.
Yursky and Nastya stay in the forest hut.
Anxiety and bad foreboding do not leave them.
Having cast aside doubts, they are setting off on the trail of geologists through the taiga. Suddenly hearing a loud crack of branches behind them, Yursky and Nastya look around and see that a giant bear is literally stepping on their heels. In panic, they run away. Finally, without strength, they fall into the grass. Trembling with fear, and preparing for death, they embrace into each other's arms.
At the same time, Severkov and his team are heading towards the helicopter. A geologists get in their way.. The bandits point their weapons at them.
A piercing cry for help is heard in the forest. Kovalev hurries to the call. Soon, Yursky and Nastya come out of the forest under the gunpoint of his pistol. Nastya, seeking protection and support from Barsukov, rushes to meet him. But Kovalev roughly grabs her by the hair. Barsukov rushes at him with his fists in a rage. A shot thunders! Barsukov falls to the ground. Nastya kneels before the prostrate. Moans escape from her chest, and then sobs.
Soon, the helicopter, controlled by Sahar, takes off into the air, taking with it the last hope for a successful outcome of business. Yursky and Nastya are on board as hostages.
From below, geologists see how the luggage compartment of the helicopter opens. In the dark doorway, holding hands, stand Yursky and Nastya. Sharp swinging from side to side, the helicopter rolls and descends. Two human figures, literally had falling out of it, fly down. The geologists rush to the helicopter, shout something, waving their arms absurdly. Getting down on one knee, Krasnogubov takes aim and fires his gun. The helicopter is roaring down in flames. Crashes into the nearest hill. A deafening explosion is heard. A black cloud of smoke covers the sky. Breaking out of it, millions of tiny particles of glass, iron and golden sand scatter everywhere at great speed.
Deepening into the forest, geologists find the motionless bodies of Yursky and Nastya there. Human groans are heard not far from them. This is a jailer Sahar. All of them are alive.
Having come to her senses,
Jane Smith tries to find out from Sahar where their common son is. She confesses to Wilkie Farmer, seeing his distressed face, that a month before meeting him, she got pregnant from Sahar. Sahar looks away, trying not to make eye contact with Jane. With secret hope she fixes her eyes on Artemiev, believing that he is the one for whom she had to go through so many trials. But Sahar confesses that in fact their real son is in prison.
In the final scene the geologists are putting the motionless body of Barsukov into the hole they dug.
The geologists leave. Yursky and Nastya are left alone. Embracing Nastya, Yursky gives her an oath that after their wedding, they will set up a tombstone on her father's grave.
Interesting storyline.
