About David

David J. Rank is an author, editor, and recovering journalist living in eastern Wisconsin where he regularly reports on what he sees moving in deep shadows.

His Dark Fiction stories have been published in regional literary publications and online in The Absent Willow Review, Acidic Fiction, AlienSkin, Apollo’s Lyre, Bewildering Stories, Every Day Fiction, Flashes in the Dark, Macabre Cadaver, MicroHorror, Pulchritude Press, StoryStore, and the anthologies “The Grays,” published by JWK Fiction, and Wisconsin Review II, published by the WWA Press.

His Flash Fiction “A Song for Andre” placed fifth in the Mainstream short story category of the Preditors & Editors Readers Poll for best stories published online in 2009, which still amazes him because “A Song for Andre” was a science fiction piece about an android.

He is a supporting member of the Horror Writers Association, and is founder and director of the Novel-In-Progress Bookcamp & Retreat, Inc. which has been nurtured by the Wisconsin and Chicago Writers associations since 2012.

A member of both the WWA and CWA, he has been president of the Wisconsin Writers Association since 2013 and on the WWA Board since 2009.With more than 40 years in the journalism business, he has written and edited newspapers, magazine, books, and worked in corporate communications for two manufacturing firms, a regional hospital, and a technical college.

He lives in eastern Wisconsin with his wife, and vicariously enjoys the further adventures of his three adult children and two grandchildren.

Unique traits: Writer, published author of dark fiction, keeper of obscure information, founder and director of the NIP, president of the Wisconsin Writers Association.
