Expand commentI don't think it's abnormal at all. It's naturally an emotional, and personal, affair when involving yourself with a rendition of a character. After all, I guess the main tool we have in acting is empathy; we inject ourselves into a character to share their experience. It's as if auditions are malformed sales pitches, yet, instead of some fancy invention or innovation, the product is your character. This character has stemmed from your acting skill, your own personality and the text, thus it hurts more when someone rejects your character as it's almost a direct rejection of 'you' in a way. That's what I think anyway! :)
Hi Harry, yes that seems to make sense. I have a friend that's a screenwriter and she is forever agonizing over her characters because she becomes attached to them.
