About George

George Pérez is a screenwriter and twice-produced New York City playwright. After a successful career as a recording and touring rock drummer, Pérez transitioned to the world of television news, where he consulted and assisted in a five-part investigative series on underage sex-trafficking, leading to the rescue of a trafficked teen. Through this experience, Pérez discovered a passion for shining the light of truth on juvenile exploitation and injustice through his writing.

A prior screenplay analyst for producer Lee Daniels, Pérez was selected as a Fellow for the Writers Assistants Network TV Fellowship in Los Angeles. His television series pilot episode for THE LIFE has been screened at the Harvard School of Public Health as well as at SeriesFest and ITVFest.

Pérez’ newest TV series pilot is LOS CUBANOS, a show that examines the immigrant struggles of Cubans who fled the Castro regime and sailed to America as part of the 1980 Freedom Floatilla. The series is based on Pérez’ personal experiences as a first-generation Cuban-American who witnessed the severe challenges his own family members faced in trying to claim their piece of the American Dream.

Additionally, Pérez has developed two other Drama series (THE LIFE & CROSSROAD) that focus on child sexual exploitation and the juvenile justice system, respectively.

Pérez is compelled to explore themes of immigrant struggles, the loss of innocence, the turbulent quest for personal freedom and the bravery to be one’s true self in the face of intolerance.
