About Steve

Steve Harper is a TV writer, playwright & actor dedicated to exploring the impact of culture and metaphysics on every day life.  His plays have been described as “Theatrical magic…that punctures the soul”*, and work that “Illuminate(s) the supernatural in the context of ordinary lived experiences.”** Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island by a Catholic father and a mother obsessed with Stephen King and horror novels, Steve’s writing investigates how we navigate the world when invisible forces make themselves present. His work examines spirituality, sexuality, race, class and often deals with spirit creatures, mythical beings and powers beyond human understanding.

Steve spent two years writing for the USA spy drama COVERT AFFAIRS. His short films include the comic spy drama Intelligence (directed by Phil Kaufmann - Dances With Films Fest.), and the supernatural comedy Betty on the Bed (also director, producer and actor).

As an actor, he has appeared on national television (Law & Order SVU, 90210, Rescue Me), in film (Chico & Rita, Broadway's Finest) and major regional theatres (The Guthrie, Williamstown).

His plays have been workshopped / read and performed at L.A.’s Celebration Theatre, New York Stage and Film, Chicago’s American Theatre Company, New York Theatre Workshop, and Broadway’s American Airlines Theatre.

Steve is a graduate of Yale, The A.R.T. Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard and the playwriting program at Juilliard. He helps actors write their stories through his company Your Creative Life.
