THE OFFSIDE KIDS
By John Kestner

GENRE: Family, Drama
LOGLINE:

Sidelined by his parents’ messy divorce, an aspiring teen soccer prodigy tricks his way into a struggling church orphanage to put together an unconventional team to win a summer league.

SYNOPSIS:

RANDY BOLDEN, 14, lives, eats, and breathes soccer.

When his PARENTS are distracted by their nasty divorce, Randy finds himself dumped for the summer at his GRANDMA EVELYN’s, a relative he barely knows who lives next to a creepy church orphanage.

Depressed that soccer camp is out, Randy notices that the misfit ORPHANS across the street are relatively athletic (from running from bullies) and that there are enough of them to field a team.

That’s when juvenile delinquent DOUG DUMIRE, also 14, gets dropped off at the orphanage. He immediately flees, tossing his papers at Randy hanging out nearby. “Here, kid, file these.” Randy sees Dumire’s documents as an opportunity to check into the orphanage as Dumire, then puts together a team for the local summer league.

It doesn’t come together easily, but Randy creates a team from the skeptical Orphans, the bully MOODY BROTHERS, BOBBY with cerebral palsy (“He’s on defense”), and STACY, the athletic daughter of PASTOR DAVE.

With each win, the Royal O’s, as they call themselves, gain the attention of the community and the media, as well as Randy’s PARENTS looking for him and the police now looking for the real Doug Dumire. As Pastor Dave fights to keep the orphanage open, Randy pushes them all to keep winning—-no matter what the consequences are.
