What to do next with my screenplay

I am wondering what I have to do next with my screenplay. I have copyrighted it and waiting to hear back. I have done some research on doing this or that such as start a website, find an agent. I would like to hear some real practical advice on what my next steps should be? Like I said, I have an id...

Build a pitch deck, extract a scene to make a short, do a table read.

Tony Germann

Contest season is upon us. I think that is a great place to start. Building your pitch and honing it also helps to prepare you for when you get the chance to tell someone about it.

Pablo Diablo

Jimmy - totally agree with a table read! Hearing dialogue, even action, read aloud can do wonders for improving the script!

Screen play

I have just finished my first screenplay. Four years in the making! Anyways I have done some research on trying to sell as a spec script and I was wondering if anyone had any advice or guidance. Also, would I copyright first before sending out scripts. If so where would I submit for proper copyrights?

Beth Fox Heisinger

Shane, other things to consider, if you wish to sell your work, are sharing and pitching. You can certainly post your script on your S32 profile page for peer review. Or just post a logline—whatever y...

It is all about transforming the idea into a story. Then attaining resources and ability is bring your screenplay to visual life. I am currently looking for such resources. Help is appreciated and will be awarded.

if you like, just pay your $20 to WGA west to register and upload your screenplay to them (this does NOT make you a WGA member tho.. you are going to have to fork out a lot more dollars for that to ha...

Do you drink while you write

Do you write while you drink liquor or smoke weed to get the muse to kick in and then read through your work when you're completely sober?

Evelyn Von Warnitz

A creamy Baileys after exciting writing sessions is a must for me!

Doug Nelson

Just my personal pov: You say it's "GOOD ENOUGH" to me and I'll say it ain't - strive for excellence in everything you do.

M L.

I build the outline, character bios and storyworld first. Stone cold sober for that and the first few drafts. Cause none of that is fun. It's like doing the blueprints on a house. Tedious.

Once it's t...

Do i need a screenplay before pitching?

Hello,

I'm wondering if I need the completed script ready before I make a pitch. How does it usually work?  Do people expect me to have the script or they'll say, "ok, show me when it's done"? I get that it's better to have it ready, but I'm wondering. Since I have far more pitch ready ideas than finished scripts.

Donnalyn Vojta

Not always, but on S32 Pitch Sessions you do.

Vasco Saraiva

Max Adams Completed, meaning completed now.

Vasco Saraiva

Donnalyn Vojta Thanks, I was wondering about that as well.

Anybody run into this

Been working on a western for a while now. (Too long) after rewrite and rewrite it just didn’t sound right. Lord and behold, I woke up in the middle of the night and realized although the story was good - the protagonist was flat - no arc. Was good guy early and good guy late. Flaws missing although I tried.

Any suggestions.

Mark W. Travis

John, lots of advice in the comments and my guess is none of it is based on a reading of your script. Sounds like you need a good healthy script consultation. Check out Michael Hauge at https://www.st...

Hmm....maybe link his weakness to his desire? Like if he wants to be a sheriff then give him terrible aim, or if he wants to court a woman, make him socially awkward, etc.

What's the minimum of formal education in screenwriting?

Hallo!

Since years I am very interested in the idea of writing scripts for television series – especially sitcoms. Up to now I read some books about screenwriting and I wrote dialogues for a stage play at an amateur theater. I created the concept for a 20 minute sitcom and wrote the full dialogues...

What recent movies(possibly even studio) were made from spec screenplays?

Not adaptations or assignments. Only original stories(by unknown writers' imagination) Just curious and for inspiration..:)

Ian White

"Passengers". Haven't been produced yet, but "Shadow 19" and "Man Alive" were relatively recent spec purchases.

Phillip E. Hardy, "The Real Deal"

Scott Meyers compiles this list every year. It doesn't have everything but it'll give you an idea.
