A child vaudeville performer, orphaned in the early 1900's, overcomes hardships and blossoms into adulthood as she seeks love, fame and acceptance. Time frame ~ 1905 to 1919
Ten year-old, Brie is billed as "Little Canary," on the vaudeville circuit. She travels with her father until he is killed. She is sent to work on a farm. The farmer's wife guns him down when he rapes Brie. Brie takes off, boarding a train to another town where she is taken in by Mama Iris, a restaurant owner.
At age seventeen, Brie becomes pregnant which leads to a disastrous marriage and the loss of her baby. Brie moves to NYC to seek a theatrical career. Mama Iris sees to it that Brie's husband is stopped permanently from stalking her.
Brie and her roommate find work in the Follies, volunteer for the Red Cross during World War I and fall in love with brothers who serve in the army.
