About Indrani

Content Creator. Writer-Director.
Partner Doppelganger Films.

A self-starter in films, Award Winning Director Ray (Eng. Lit Major) pivoted from a successful Advertising career (Grey and Lowe Lintas) to pursue films. To deep-dive into filmmaking brass tacks Ray planned laterally and founded a one-of-its-kind Audio Content outfit creating International Bollywood-programming that allowed her uninterrupted access to shooting floors. A circuitously fruitful route as it turned out. Ray's 1st – A Shell TVC for MoFilm London’s Global Competition, made the Top-10 list.

Through Lockdown 2020 Ray remotely helmed her 3-Shorts Anthology as Director (Debut), Writer and EP, headlined by the multi-awarded actor Adil Husain.

Ray co-produced the US State Department backed animated short Priya’s Mask (2020) featuring featuring India’s first modern day comic book superhero and voiced by Bollywood stars Vidya Balan and Mrunal Thakur. She co-EP'ed Priya and the Twirling Wind (2022) an innovative climate change Puppet animation which won Best Animated Short at the UK Asian Film Festival (UKAFF). Ray’s Climate Change Series featuring Priya is in development.

Armed with in-depth experience working on premium lifestyle brands with aesthetic and brand identity as her core competencies, Ray has built a like-minded creative cohort both locally and globally in her role as Director-Creator-Producer. Recently, she created and produced a four-film campaign for an Indo-Australian unicorn brand. Currently, she is also setting up her international rom-com feature, headlined by diverse leads, and adapting a European film into a Hindi feature.

Ray captures the true zeitgeist of 2020-21 off and on camera, script to screen done remotely, without compromising on quality, with a transatlantic micro-crew spread across Delhi, Bombay, Goa, Calcutta, Manhattan, Florida - most of whom Ray had never met physically including close collaborators DoP Karan Thapliyal (Academy winner The Elephant Whisperers) and Editor Eu-nah Lee.

The anthology was selected to premier on Viacom’s Voot Select for their Debut Shorts Festival (2021 )and received notable recognition organically, without any PR campaign– both at home and overseas:
Chicago South Asian Film Festival 2021: Special Mention Direction for Tea and a Rose, cherry picked from worldwide submissions.
DFWSAFF:
Nomination Best Shorts Director, Tea and a Rose.
Nomination Best South Asian Short (Adil Hussain Best Male Lead)
The anthology had its UK premiere at SAHM (South Asian Heritage Month).
