Sticks - Music Sample - Daily Life

matthewchilelli.com Sticks, the little wooden robot, is brought to life by his master and helps out around the camp. The world is a confusing place for our plucky protagonist, and even a friendly visitor to the camp can seem like a dangerous situation. John August's animatic for a short film needed some music to breath life into the action. We went with a slightly off-kilter melody performed by both Western and African instruments to hint at a larger musical world outside of the camp.

Escape the Dark - Music Sample - Night Terror

matthewchilelli.com Jackie and Rachel close the windows in their apartment; Rachel is scared while reading in bed. I wrote a lyrical, pulsing piece to lead the viewer into the bedtime scene, allowing it trail off before the terrifying moment when the covers are ripped off. Horror movie music is fun to compose!

Adventures of Miss Fit - Music Sample - HOPE Outreach

matthewchilelli.com Miss Fit is a superhero on a mission - she wants to learn all she can about the Real-Life-Superhero phenomenon, and along the way, she becomes involved in their cause, which is homeless outreach. Here she helps the other RLSH folks as they distribute supplies to homeless people in San Diego. Writing music for documentaries can be daunting. Often times a composer needs to reign in his or her style to better suit the realism of the moments in documentary films, but this is a particularly emotional moment of Adventures of Miss Fit, so I was able to spread my musical wings and write a poignant yet occasionally soaring piece for this homeless outreach mission.

I won a regional Emmy Award in San Diego for my score for The Purple Couch. One heck of a night!
