A brilliant but aimless teenager befriends a disabled girl with extraordinary powers, and in her effort to elude authorities and return the girl to her ocean home she discovers something truly incredible within herself.
SYNOPSIS:
“Maya’s Window” is about Reese Dillon, a talented science student and athlete who has no dreams for her future due to her parents’ broken marriage. Reese’s friends from Highview Prep, Tessa Cruz and Cory Gann, temper her loneliness, but only to an extent. On Halloween night, Reese stumbles upon Maya Cooper, a disabled girl, who recently moved in next door. Reese and Maya form a fast friendship, and a psychic bond, when Maya transfers energy to Reese that gives her newfound determination and clarity – the very things she’s been lacking. Reese learns that Maya and her father, Lloyd Cooper, have been eluding authorities due to Maya’s amazing powers, which include telekinesis and the ability to cure disease. Reese also learns that Maya’s mother was from a race of intelligent life residing deep in the ocean. They can take on human form, but they can only remain on land for an abbreviated time before returning to their “true form." This is true for Maya, who desperately wants to see her mother again. When Lloyd falls ill, Maya’s hopes of a reunion are put in jeopardy. Reese agrees to take Maya home, but her plan takes a terrible turn when a school bully steals Maya’s energy and she lands in the hospital. Federal agents soon descend upon the hospital to learn more about Maya. They also question Reese about Maya’s origins. Reese’s estranged father, who is Maya’s doctor, informs Reese the agents will take Maya to a government facility. Reese hatches a last ditch plan to free Maya. In a race to the ocean, the girls push themselves to the limit so Maya can finally reunite with her mother and return to her “true form.”
