In this epic fantasy action musical series: an immortal Ancient Greek courtesan's shieldmaiden lover becomes imprisoned by the god Loki, and she must use her magical voice to defeat him on a mission that lasts for over a thousand years.
SYNOPSIS:
Ancient Greek hetaira, Aspasia, known for her wisdom and wit, seeks knowledge from the gods, who instead give her immortality. After a thousand years of life and travel, working as a bard and storyteller, she falls in love with the Viking shieldmaiden, Ástrid. Desiring mortality so that she can grow old and die with her love, Aspasia seeks out the gods once more, but she is tricked by Loki, who imprisons Ástrid and blackmails Aspasia into a deal with him: do his bidding and he will free Ástrid. This deal goes on for another thousand years, with Aspasia traveling the world using magical power granted to her voice by Loki, who sends her on missions for him throughout the course of history. In the present day, we find Aspasia desperately looking for a way to outwit Loki and get her lover back once and for all. This project contains music from various time periods and genres performed by Aspasia during flashbacks while she tries to figure out what Loki is after. It is a musical, but it's worth pointing out that all of the music in the show is actually being performed by the characters and is not a symbolic representation of emotions. The attached document is not a screenplay but a stage-play for the one act live musical being presented at Edinburgh Fringe this August.
