In order to receive her inheritance from her wealthy father, a broke NY socialite has to live in and repair a fixer upper in the remote mountains of So Cal.
SYNOPSIS:
When NY socialite Olivia “Liv” Barnett (27) attempts to use her credit card at the usual high end stores, it shockingly gets declined. In fact, it gets declined everywhere around town. She visits her family’s accountant and he informs her that she blew through her trust fund. When asked if she can finally tap into her inheritance that her wealthy father has left her, he said it was up to the executor of his estate to make that decision, which is her quirky and eccentric Aunt Penelope who lives in a small bungalow in Venice, CA. Not happy about having to fly commercial, Olivia takes the trip across country where her aunt informs her that in order to receive her inheritance, she must live in and repair a fixer upper in the remote mountains of So Cal.
Life might be different in the mountains but what she eventually discovers is something far more priceless than anything she’s ever owned.

I like the concept, Christine Capone. I can picture a lot of funny and dramatic scenes. What are the stakes (if she doesn't inherit the money)?

Thanks Maurice! The log line is a work in progress but she blew through her trust fund so now she's broke and can't afford her lifestyle. That is the motivation. But of course, this whole experience changes her and who knows, maybe she stays.
You're welcome, Christine Capone. Maybe "In order for a broke New York socialite to inherit the money her wealthy father left her..."
Or you could restructure the logline and put the inciting incident at the front. "After a New York socialite blows through her trust fund, she has to live in and repair a fixer upper in the remote mountains of Southern California in order to inherit the money her wealthy father left her."
But the second part of that logline might make people winded, so maybe: "After a New York socialite blows through her trust fund, she has to live in -- and repair -- a fixer upper in the remote mountains of Southern California in order to inherit the money her wealthy father left her."

Funny I just thought about adding the word "broke" after I responded to your message so thanks for that! I like your log lines. Wondering if they might be a bit long winded but I'll work with it. Thanks for these, they definitely help!

I only have the pilot completed at this point. I'll probably write 2-3 episodes. I've had it in my "saved for later" folder so thought I'd revisit it because I can really use some humor in my life after writing crime for the past several years! haha
I imagine the heavy stuff in the Crime genre can take a toll on a writer, Christine Capone. The cases, the crime scenes, etc.
I thought the loglines I wrote might be long winded also. Maybe change "a fixer upper in the remote mountains of Southern California" to "a fixer upper in Southern California." I'm not sure how important the "remote mountains" part is though.

Yeah, it's a much needed break. You see the world in a totally different way.
I want her to be kind of "off the grid". She doesn't have the modern conveniences she's use to. I live in the mountains so I can write in a lot of things I've experienced while living here This story is not about me but I did grow up very close to a major city and when I moved here it was a very different way of life.
