About James

Hello! I'm James Codeglia, a freelance Director of Photography who has shot hundreds of projects for the web, television, and the silver screen. Most recently, I shot behind-the-scenes material for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

Before that, I was hired full-time as an in-house Director of Photography at Bad Robot where I filmed all the press and bonus Blu-ray material for “Star Trek Into Darkness” which won a Satellite Award for “Best Blu-ray.” During those two years I worked on many projects for J.J. Abrams including stop-motion animation, viral and experimental videos, short films, TV shows and movies.

Other narrative credits include “Krantz” by Christopher Cantwell (creator of Halt and Catch Fire), the award-winning film “Thumb,” and the recent music video “Alive” by Empire of the Sun which has 63 million views on YouTube.

I spent four years as a full-time employee for Disney, shooting viral videos and TV ads with such icons as “Mickey Mouse Brings Magic to NYC” and “Darth Vader Goes to Disneyland!”

Currently I am available for hire as a Director of Photography on features, short films, independent projects, commercials, music videos and more. I'm also a skilled editor, visual effects artist, photographer, and a pretty nice guy. ;)

I own a RED Weapon Helium camera, the latest and greatest they make. It shoots raw in 8K resolution and beats its predecessors in low-light, color, has less compression and higher data rates, can record ProRes or DNxHR straight from camera, and is smaller and lighter than any other RED camera (or Alexa Mini for that matter).
