My Story / About Artisound
Artisound is the brainchild of Yan Ireland, a lifelong musician and entrepreneur from Surrey. He learned piano and percussion as a child and later the guitar. In later life he began to DJ and write his own music. If you scour the internet hard enough you might find videos of him touring the festival circuit dressed in 1920s swing gear playing electro-swing/hip-hop.
As a premier producer of lo-fi and chillout tracks, Yan found he was always in demand as a soundtrack artist but that the royalty-free music world was a cold and impersonal place.
“As online companies get bigger and bigger, I wanted to bring a more personal touch to sourcing royalty-free music,” he says, “I saw a market for high-quality tracks, curated by hand and delivered in minutes. As the internet continues to automate process after process, I decided the way to provide a unique service was to use real artists, pay them fairly and match each track to each project the old-fashioned way – with the skill and imagination you only get from a real musician.” While many bigger music licensing corporations can pay the artist as little as 20%, Artisound pays 50%, irrespective of the processes and costs involved.
Yan personally selects and ensures the quality of every one of the tracks that goes into the Artisound library using a lifetime’s worth of music experience. So when a client clicks the ‘Request Music’ tab on the site, fills in their requirements, they can have high-quality music suggestions sent to them directly then go through the simple purchasing process which takes under two minutes.
In an increasingly complex online landscape, combining cutting-edge tech with traditional, artistic values has provided a quick and reliable solution to royalty free music that is fair for all concerned. “I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve built,” says Yan, “It took more trial and error than I imagined – there’s no go-to-guru in this field – but both clients and artists are happy. I’m really excited about the new spaces and new opportunities that have opened up.”
Unique traits: Run a music licensing platform. Supplying soundtracks to filmmakers and video editors at a reasonable rate.
