Screenwriter, producer, playwright, published author, director and songwriter are some of the makings of Raenell Jones. A graduate of UCLA Professional Screenwriting Program, a Pennsylvania State University alumnus in Economics, and a Masters of Divinity graduate from The King’s University, Raenell has written and produced a few projects. She has written, directed and produced her first stage play in January 2014 regarding drug addiction and recovery. In June 2017, Raenell’s sophomore stage play was a romantic comedy.
She created two short films and a webisode as well. Her first short film made it to second place in the 2010 Kingdomwood Film Festival. Her sophomore short film received Award of Merit from the 2013 Best Shorts Film Festival. Her webisode was runner up for 2016 AAWIC Film Festival Webisode Video Contest.
Raenell has written more than s dozen screenplays. Such screenplays received recognition in various screenwriting contests. Her screenplay reached top 15 percentile in the 2007 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. This same screenplay made top 10 in the 2007 Writers on the Storm Screenwriting Contest where there were over 1000 screenplays in this competition. She has also created a few sizzle reels for feature film projects that she seeks to produce.
Raenell also created multiple television stories. Her one-hour dramatic television story reached semi-finalist position in the 2009 Organization of Black Screenwriters (OBS) Screenwriting Competition. Another teleplay also placed in the quarterfinalist position for 2007 Scriptapalooza T.V. Contest. Raenell was selected to be one of the 20 writers across the U.S. to participate in NAMIC (National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications) Spring 2009 Writers’ Workshop.
Raenell takes great joy to help someone else. She enjoys helping someone on his or her project by being a production assistant or crewmember. This allows her the opportunity to learn from and support others.
Diverse in writing, this Pittsburgh, PA native, the home of August Wilson, Raenell is also a published author. She has two self-published poetry books and three children’s picture books, with a fourth children’s picture book in the making.
