About Jarvis

W. Jarvis Rooker is a filmmaker who was born on a dirt farm in a poverty stricken area of northeast North Carolina. He earned his BS in Communications from AppState University before getting accepted into the prestigious Dodge College of Film at Chapman University in Orange, CA. There, his first short film Encounter won the highly competitive Dodge Fellowship (a $10k production grant), his thesis film The Feudalists won the school’s Best Picture and Best Direction awards (beating the student film of fellow classmates, now famous Duffer Brothers), and he eventually graduated top of his class with an MFA in Film Production. He has written feature screenplays that have placed as a Finalist in the PAGE Awards and Quarter-Finalists within both the Nichols and Austin Film Fest. He has also won the Duke City Shootout production grant to make the award winning short The Bakers Road Killings. His last short film, Animal Doctor had a very limited release, but was still lucky enough to win Best Dramatic Short at last year’s Longleaf Film Fest. At the present , his supernatural thriller Restitution is making the festival rounds.

Despite all of this, he presently lives in Raleigh NC, and works at a brewery because it seems to be the only work he can secure. But he still shoots and he still writes and he still chases his dreams daily.
