About Kae

Kae Bahar is an award winning writer and director who has also worked as an actor and produced several documentary films for BBC, C4, Al Jazeera and other broadcasters. He is a native of Kurdistan - ‘Iraq’, growing up under the regime of Saddam Hussein, arrested by the secret police at the age of 14 and miraculously saved from death-row, in 1980 Kae left Iraq for Italy where he trained with Tele Europa in Film and TV technique. He then undertook a two years diploma in Acting. Kae left Italy for England in 1993. He immediately started working in London in the film industry. In 2003, Kae achieved a BA in Film and Media, at Birkbeck College, London with a particular interest in screenwriting. His love for writing resulted in completing several short film scripts and four feature film screenplays; BLINDFOLD SHOES, AMERICAN TREASON, SONG OF FREEDOM and SHOOTING MORTARA, as well as his first novel, LETTERS FROM A KURD. I AM SAMI, his first professional short fiction, had over 150 screenings in International Film Festivals winning 53 awards including 30 times for Best Film and Audience Choice and twice as Best Director. Kae’s next film, A SPECIAL GUEST was shot in 2016, in preparation for his directorial debut; making one of his feature film screenplays.
