About Laura

LAURA NERI was born in Belgium of a Greek mother and an Italian father. She got her BA with Honors in Film Analysis and Screenwriting in Brussels, where 2-times Palme d’Or winner Luc Dardenne was her teacher and thesis mentor.

Neri then got an MFA in Film Production at the University of Southern California, where she was the recipient of a grant by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. She was also selected by USC to receive a full scholarship for two years.

Laura Neri has written and directed several award-winning short films which have screened at festivals worldwide, including "A Kiss on the Nose” which was screened at more than 50 festivals and won over 15 awards (including Best Short, Best Drama, Best Screenplay and Vision Award for an outstanding Emerging Filmmaker at the Heartland Film Festival) and “Fighting Auditions” (Best Screenplay, Best Actress), as well as "Fugue" (Best Short film at SEEFest 2019), "If You Please" (Nominated for best screenplay and best director at the Maverick Movie Awards 2020).

Neri was also selected as one of “10 Young Filmmakers to Watch” by KTLA5 (Los Angeles) in 2010.

“Kill the Habit” is Laura Neri’s first feature film. It premiered at Cinequest in 2010 and went on to screen at the British Film Institute as well as
in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles (earning a Best Feature Director award at LAFemme film fest), India and Australia.
“Kill the Habit” is now available on Amazon Prime, and VOD.

Laura Neri is currently in development on a new feature script: "The Hidden War", which was selected for both the éQuinoxe Europe and MFI Script to Screen screenwriting workshops, both sponsored in part by the MEDIA program of the European Union.

She is in post-production for her latest short film "Yaya".
