David Reid is a Los Angeles based film and television composer, and multi-instrumentalist. He was born in New York, New York and grew up in New Rochelle, New York.
David began composing music for film at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design where he scored several of his own films, as well as collaborating with other student filmmakers.
After college, David became an active touring and recording musician with a number of bands, including the Glenn Branca Guitar Ensemble, Don Caballero, and Joe Henry. David's guitar playing can be heard on Elliot Goldenthal's film scores for "Heat" and "In Dreams".
Building upon all of these experiences, David began his career composing music for film and television. David's music has appeared with frequency on such networks as MTV, A+E, VH-1, Nickelodeon, Discovery and E!. He also composed award-winning commercial spots for Budweiser (Super Bowl 2004), Nike, Mercedes, Axe and Pfizer, amongst others. Work with the American Legacy Foundation's "Truth Campaign" received two Clio awards. In 2002 he also provided music to the soundtrack for Michael Moore's Academy Award winning documentary "Bowling for Columbine".
In 2005 David formed the music and sound design company SoundReid () with his longtime friend and collaborator Derek Bermel. Derek is an accomplished classical composer who has received commissions from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center amongst others.
David's film composing credits include "Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator" (2002); "The Kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart" (2005); "Middletown" (2009); "That Which Once Was"(2010); and "Who Took Johnny" (2014). Film scores that David and Derek have composed together include "Rockaway"(2007), "Battle for Brooklyn" (2010) and "Torn" (2013).
