About Sy

Sy Huq is a four-time Oscar Qualified Norweigian-born Bangladeshi-American film director, screenwriter, and producer. A graduate of UCLA's Professionals Program in Producing, his films have won an AT&T Film Award, a Stage 32 Film Award, an ISA Fellowship, and an Imagine Impact Creators Network Screenwriting Staff Pick. His films, notably "Things That Fall" (2019), "Boys" (2021), and "Oh, Mighty Ocean" (2022), have been distributed internationally by Omeleto, Shorts.TV, and Gonella.

His film, "Things That Fall" starring Sterling Beaumon and Stephanie Nogueras, was a story he wrote/directed to allow viewers to experience the world of auditory hallucinations in a new light. It had been selected at various Academy Qualifying Film Festivals and screened at many festivals including Austin Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand, Raindance, Hollyshorts, LAShorts, and won a number of awards. The project involved pioneering technology in sound design, which won an AT&T Film Award in 2019 in the New Forms of Storytelling category and the 2019 Stage 32 Short Film Contest. After an extensive international festival tour, "Things That Fall" became qualified for the 92nd Academy Awards for Best Live Action Short Film.

In 2021, "Boys", a short film he produced, became qualified for the 94th Academy Awards for Best Live Action Short Film.

In 2022, Sy premiered "The Journey", a feature he produced on with Toei Animation and Manga Productions; history's first animation feature collaboration between Japanese and Saudi studios. Distributed by Sony Pictures on their Crunchyroll streaming platform (out now).
