Scott Mitchell

Scott Mitchell is a graphic artist, illustrator, sculptor and special effects make-up artist.

A journey into the realm of fantasy and horror began at an early age when building model kits, drawing pictures and dabbling in special effects make-up helped Scott confront his fear of monsters and the unknown . . .

Scott developed his illustration, painting and sculpting skills through the years on his own and studied at DePaul University where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. Originally focusing on traditional oil painting, the digital age presented new tools to bring fantasy into reality.

Scott embraced a career as a digital graphic artist for the past 17 years, during which he succeeded in writing, art directing and publishing his original roleplaying game, The Seventh Seal.

While at the C2E2 Comic and Entertainment Convention, Scott met Anthony Kosar, a young special effects artist who was promoting classes in Mask-Making and Make-up FX that he was teaching at Kosart Effects Studios in Westmont, Illinois.

Under the tutelage of Kosar, Scott rekindled his passion for special FX make-up and began a quest to revisit and learn new skills geared toward the FX industry including: sculpting, molding, casting and painting latex masks; applying out-of-the-kit make-up; lifecasting and creating small-scale maquettes.

Classic horror and his own dark imagination inspire Scott's latest creative designs . . .
