Rakesh Kumar

I have graduated in cinematography in the year 2000 from Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata, a premier institute under the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. After being associated with acclaimed filmmakers like Gautam Ghosh and Aparna Sen as an associate in cinematography my first break as the Director of Photography came with a bengali feature film Aabar Ashbo Phire directed by Ravi Ojha. Since then i photographed eight feature films in bengali and hindi. My brush with television started with Ravi Ojha's magnum opus Ek Akasher Niche in kolkata. It was Ravi Ojha who pushed me into direction with Ogo Bodhu Sundari. The serial became a big hit in Bengal. When Star Plus decided to remake this bengali serial in Hindi i shifted to Mumbai. The remake titled Sasural Genda Phool has become a history for its critical appreciation and popularity both. I had the opportunity to direct the above show. I also directed shows titled Sazda and Tu Mera Hero for Star Plus, Badalte Rishton Ki Dastan for Zee TV, Gustakh Dil and Zindagi Baki Hai Mere Ghost for Life OK and Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls for & TV. Also i directed a telefilm for Star Plus titled Full Circle under the series Teri Meri Love Story.
To my credit is also a no budget film in bhojpuri, a dialect spoken in few eastern states like Bihar and Uttarpradesh. I wrote, photographed,directed and produced this film titled Pistol: Ek Prem Kahani.
Currently i am working on two scripts for feature films.
