About Sondiyp

As a writer, I find bios surprisingly difficult to write as I prefer telling stories about other people than myself.

I have been in love with all forms of story since I was 7 years old. I remember it distinctly, as I was having difficulty learning how to read, and my parents were struggling on how to help me. I remember feeling sad and angry that I couldn't do it, and spending days and nights by myself with storybooks until I could read them all.

I graduated with a BA in Screen Production in 2014, and have spent over 6 years in the New Zealand Film and Television Industry, gaining experience in many levels of the Production Department on a range of projects. I have worked as a Production Assistant, Coordinator, Runner, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Assistant Director, Production Manager and Producer.

Most recently across 2018-19 I have managed a sitcom pilot for MediaWorks as part of their Comedy Pilot Week. I was the 1st AD on the TV promos for Season 8 of the Block NZ, and a Production Assistant on Season 6 of Grand Designs NZ.

Across this same period, I obtained a scholarship to pursue a Masters in Screenwriting. Having always wanted to pen stories myself, this was a dream come true. And in 2019, I completed my Masters with Honours, and will be graduating in December 2019.

Having achieved this goal, I set out to write and direct my first short film with all the skills I have gained. "Viral" is a bleak comedy that takes a lighthearted critique of social media culture. Having shot half the film, we are prepping to complete principal photography in December as well, which will be a busy month for me.

I hope to continue writing and directing, as I love the visual medium of film and television and the stories we are able to convey with it. New Zealand is a wonderful country, full of rich stories, and I hope to have a part in bringing those stories to the world.
