About Greg

Greg Fortier is a comedy writer based in LA, originally from NYC. He takes pride in the ability to unearth the humor, heart and honesty in all places, be it the humdrum of the daily grind in Today’s Special (2014 “official selection” NYTV Festival, SeriesFest, “best pilot” Hoboken Film Festival) or a slightly more dire, apocalyptic scenario in The End Times (2019 comedy pilot semifinalist, Cinestory Fellowship). Growing up in New York, a city where countless stories are unfolding at all times, inspired his feature script, Tandem, the tale of a street artist and their imaginary friend (2018, optioned by Manhattan Productions). He relishes in the challenge of adopting perspectives far from his own, as evidenced in Rearranged, the true story of a young Indian woman who fled an arranged marriage (“Best Comedy Feature Script,” Austin Film Festival, Nicholl Semifinalist, 2019).

Greg owes at least several his creative bones to his parents, both classical musicians, his ample practice as the straight man to his borderline-insane college roommates, and his love of language to his grandfather Saul, slayer of the Sunday crossword, a Jewish-English immigrant who would imbue warmth and playfulness into every turn of phrase. Years after his passing, Greg discovered a memoir in which Grandpa Saul notes one of his two biggest regrets in life — turning down a screenwriting opportunity back in the ’50s in favor of the steady work of teaching, necessary to support a growing family. Two generations later, Greg believes he’s free to pursue the path Saul was not able to take thanks to the foundation he and the rest of his family laid.
