Joe’s first feature, “The Bunker,” faced the same problems most films do, except for one: Joe’s blind. After the film’s original director dropped out, though, he decided to take it on himself, rather than let the project die. The movie screened at over a dozen festivals, garnering multiple awards before securing domestic and international distribution. Since he can’t stand writing in the third person—
I started in comic books back in the ‘90s, co-creating the indie horror title Cry For Dawn, because my partner and I loved horror, and there was precious little for us to buy. Horror’s still my favorite genre, but pros write for a living, and along with the screenwriting, I’ve written articles, for sci-fi anthologies, for several charitable organizations, and…Men’s magazines. Whatever pays the bills, right?
Currently, I’m the writer/director for Van Halen Store’s recently-launched ‘Yeti Van Halen’ ad campaign, developing a property into a graphic novel, and pitching projects that push the envelope. I plan on dying at my keyboard because I enjoy working, and don’t mind working with other people because being disabled isn’t a challenge. Making people want the blind guy on set? That’s not just a challenge, it’s addictive.
Unique traits: First (and only) blind feature film director.
