Pilot Viruet is a screenwriter, essayist, and journalist living in Queens, New York. After obtaining a dual B.A. in Film Studies and Creative Writing from Hofstra University, and an M.F.A. in TV Writing from Long Island University, Pilot started their own website and monthly event series called TV Hangover. This led to becoming a contributor to The A.V. Club and the Television Editor at Flavorwire (where they built the entire section from scratch). Later Pilot worked as the Culture Editor for the main page at VICE. Pilot’s work—which ranges from humorous personal essays about queerness and mental health to reporting on diversity and representation within the entertainment industry—has appeared in The New York Times, BuzzFeed, The Atlantic, Vulture, and more. Most recently, Pilot's screenwriting, which frequently tells stories about queer and trans people of color, awarded them a spot in two highly-competitive fellowships: the 2019 Sesame Street Writers Workshop and the 2019 WGAE: Made In New York Fellowship.
