About Mark

Mark Oxman is a Southern California native who learned about filmmaking by missing school to visit sets of TV shows in his youth. A 30-minute short film Oxman wrote and directed, “Sing Along,” starred Tony winner Alice Ripley (“Next to Normal”), two-time Emmy winner Uzo Aduba (TV’s “Orange is the New Black”), Tony nominee Patrick Page (“Hadestown”), and a slew of other Broadway performers — including Myles Erlick (one of the Billy Elliots; now in Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story" remake) and Heidi Blickenstaff (“[title of show]”, star of Disney Channel's "Freaky Friday" remake). The short was Academy Award-eligible and ended up being purchased by ShortsTV; it is still in rotation on DIRECTV and across Europe.

His second short film, "Vinyl Child," stars Creed Bratton from "The Office," two-time Emmy winner Patrika Darbo, Jillian Clare ("Days of Our Lives"), and Groundlings alum Mitch Silpa ("Bridesmaids," "The Heat," "Spy"). The film is based on the true story of Pat and Joe Prosey who raised a Cabbage Patch Kid doll as their own child, much to the chagrin of their teenage daughter. The couple have a cult following after appearing on such shows as VH1's "Totally Obsessed," TLC's "My Crazy Obsession," and Anderson Cooper's talk show.

Although he is considered an unknown writer, Oxman has several projects in development which are all coming together simultaneously. Producer Declan Baldwin, who runs Big Indie Pictures and executive produces for Amazon Studios, has been developing a film he wrote titled “Virtual Strangers” which Oxman is attached to direct. Declan recently produced Academy Award winners “Still Alice” and “Manchester by the Sea.” He has been developing a fantasy/sci-fi TV series titled “The Darwin Theory” for Howie Mandel’s Alevy Pictures, which he is pitching after “Virtual Strangers” is complete. He was hired by producer Harvey Kivel to write a biopic about 1920s Broadway star Libby Holman, a vehicle designed for Lady Gaga. Broadway producer and lawyer Benjamin Carl Feldman (“Pippin;” “On the Town;” “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812”) hired Oxman to adapt a stageplay from a short film his client had starred in. His second venture into stage writing, “The Things You Left Behind,” is in development for an off-Broadway reading in 2021.
