About Ronald

As a sophomore at UCLA in 1978 I wrote a feature about a young genius who goes back to the old west on a motorcycle. That script, "Popular Mechanic", was never typed. I still have it.

After graduating from UCLA with a degree in english I took a job working the night shift waiting tables at Bob's Big Boy so I could write novels during the day. I wanted to write about four young people trying to figure out how they fit into the world, but I fell in love with a very cute waitress and those pages never got written.

My mom got into a serious brush with the law when I was just 23 and after seeing the impact they could have, I became a lawyer. During law school I discovered that as a bankruptcy lawyer you could help people and still make a living, so that's what I've been doing ever since.

In 1988 I wrote that novel as a screenplay, "A Time Under Heaven". I was friendly with Shane Black and he gave me notes, but I withdrew back into the law and never did a re-write. I still have the script and the notes and I'll probably get back to it in time.

In 1990 I moved to Baltimore and wrote a comedy with a good friend, "The Fool on the Hill" about a ne-er do well who becomes president. It's about 95% done and will likely stay that way.

Married in 1993; started my own law practice in 1994; daughter in 1995, son in 1997. Divorced 2007 remarried 2011.

In 2012 I discovered internet marketing and found a great outlet for my creativity in law. I have a YouTube channel with 250 videos about bankruptcy and the law. In 2015 I joined a legal mastermind and, through its focus on clarity discovered that I really wanted to write.

In 2017 - 2018 I wrote what became a feature, "The Inventors" an adventure story about some of the great inventors of the 19th century who confront the villainous Otto von Bismarck. I expected that in June of 2018 I would finish the script and get back to focusing seriously on my legal practice. That didn't happen.

I took Scott's course on creating a first draft and wrote Manhunt in Panama last year. I just finished my 4th draft

I also wrote Barnstorming: A Story of Sex and Baseball in the early fall, just muddled through a third draft of that.

I'm in the early stages of outlining "Isaac", a legal thriller featuring Belva Lockwood, a practicing attorney, first woman admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court and presidential candidate in 1884.
