About Rachel

Rachel grew up as the oldest of five home-schooled children in a conservative Christian family in one particular pothole in the Chicago suburbs. Although that is about as vanilla as the Midwestern cornfields get, life was always multi-cultural with parents who were so zealous about their faith that they not only became bilingual through working and worshiping alongside Spanish-speaking immigrants, but decided to up and sell everything to move down to South America as missionaries. After four years traveling a chicken-filled bus with a drunken driver up and down the most dangerous road in the world (and getting stuck on it for 32 hours when the road fell down the mountainside), Rachel high-tailed it back to the United States to try her first year of any kind of school outside the home - a great way to kick-off senior year! Since then, she has embraced learning about different cultures, from studying acting with the masters in Moscow, Russia, to taking her 9-year old mixed-race son across the USA on a home-school field trip of their own (single parent travel, no biggie). Now Rachel is the writer/director/producer of an award-winning biographical documentary for an international nonprofit (50 interviews with authors in multiple states… good thing we got them all done the day before Covid hit). She is enjoying diving deeper into writing and directing narrative features and series that reflect her experience with people of many different cultures, economic and educational statuses, and representing Chicago pizza to anyone who likes cheese.
