About Allen

Screen and television writer, director and producer. As a writer he has six feature films to his credit: “Sweet Justice,” “Phantom of the Ritz,” “Night Screams,” “When,” “East/West Blues,” and “Muddy Puddles.”

He directed the indie movies, “Sweet Justice,” “Phantom of the Ritz,” and “Night Screams.”

For television, Plone wrote and directed the hour-long documentary, “America’s Rifle: The
Garand,” the six-part one hour children’s series,” “Danni’s Tales,” “For The Common Good,” the PBS Special, “Firefly’s Fantastik Fables,” “Three Sillies Episode,” “Crocker’s Dream,” and PBS’s “Simple Machines,” for Disney Channel. Allen also wrote and helmed the six-episode children’s series, “Wow!” He’s also helmed several documentaries for PBS, including the award-winning, “Crocker’s Dream,” which told the story of the creation of the Palm Springs Arial Tramway.

Plone spent 10 years as the head of Vis/Art Films, where he wrote and produced over two hundred commercials and industrial films. He has won two prestigious Clio awards for his series of commercials for the California Department of Forestry.

Early on the music video bandwagon, Plone chose to specialize in Jazz performances, creating music videos and DVD’s for Bobby “Blue” Bland, McCoy Tyner, Sun Ra, Bobby Hutcherson and others. He travelled Japan with the legendary group, Earth, Wind & Fire, directing their shows for NHK and BET. The DVD of their performance edited and directed by Plone was awarded the RIAA Platinum Disk for sales over 100,000 units.

He is widely published as an author, with such books as “The Cowboy of My Heart” (short story)
“Rosebud,” “Solly” (short story), “Fireflies,” “My Father’s Ghost” (poem), “Being,” “Lacrimae Luna” (poem), “Fool’s Journey” (short story). His books of poetry include “Do I Know You?,” “More Than Song,” and “Family Matter.” He has written three children’s books, “Ned Smiles,
”Music Fairies, “ and “As I Sit In My Garden.” He has also published his poetry in numerous Poetry Journals.

Allen also wrote the lyrics to the 40 original songs that a featured in the hit series, “Danni’s Tales.”

Allen, a member of the Director’s Guild of America, is an award-winning filmmaker and writer, winning two Clio Awards for commercials, two Golden Cines, was honored as the best short story of the year for “Cowboy of My Heart” and several other prestigious awards.
