New York City’s most infamous crime kingpin is double-crossed and murdered by one of his eight closest associates. The twists and turns that lead up to the revelation of who plotted this vengeful act leaves this mafia network in shambles.
SYNOPSIS:
Sam Roberts, a henchman for the Vito Mirabelli crew, is at Little Vinny’s basement interrogating him as he is accused of trying to steal a stash of Vito’s valuable diamonds, which he vehemently denies. Sam runs out of patience and we hear two gunshots go off from Vinny’s kitchen. Waiting outside is Sam’s partner, Michael Benson. He patiently waits in the driver’s seat of his beat-up car with two duffel bags sitting next to him. Michael takes out a photograph of him cuddling with an Asian beauty on a bench. He stares at the photo fondly, connoting happier times.
We flash forward to Michael sitting in an interrogation room in a maximum security prison. He agreed to be interviewed by Olivia Martinez, a news reporter writing a book on the Mirabelli death. Michael begins by telling her a little about Vito; a cold-blooded, philanthropic, church-going criminal. He then delves into the eight suspects, including himself, who could have carried out the execution of the most powerful mafia boss in NYC.
Michael starts with himself. His motive for wanting to kill his boss is not only did Vito treat him like scum, but Michael was romantically involved with his stepdaughter. Vito thought Michael would one day avenge his stepdaughter’s honor after knowing all the horrid things he did to her. Then we have Sam Roberts. This top hitman wanted to quit the business, yet Vito impeded every attempt and threatened to kill him if he tried. Ilana Lee, the Asian beauty from the picture and Vito Mirabelli’s stepdaughter, always dreamt of her stepfather’s murder due to the countless occasions of rape and emotional trauma she was subjected to as a teenager. Tony Richards always felt it was Vito’s fault for his father’s death. Jubilation would be an understatement if Tony were to eliminate him. Ramon Moulds and Frank Jones were a tenacious tandem that were ran out of town by Mirabelli after a newspaper article falsely accused them of not only being business partners, but romantic partners as well. Bruce Carmine, Vito’s right-hand man and a legend in the business, long overpaid his dues to be the captain of the crew, yet never made it to the top. His jealousy boiled to the point of longing for his boss to be taken out. Finally, Officer Rick Michaels. A hot-tempered cowboy who was rumored to be dumb enough to double-cross not only his peers in blue but contemplate killing his crime boss to steal his fortune and split town never to be seen again.
We go back to Michael and Sam driving back from Little Vinny’s and on their way to Vito’s house. What they find is his car blown to pieces. What follows are the revelations of partnerships that were formed before Vito’s death, individuals not knowing who to trust and things not seeming how they appear on the surface. For instance, Frank and Ramon laid low but never left town. Tony paid Bruce ten grand, with ninety more to follow, for a job Bruce did for him. Some of Rick’s partners have seen him around Vito’s complex. Rick feels the heat and starts cutting ties with some of his fellow officers. Michael is perturbed that Illana acts so nonchalantly about her stepfather’s death and how gleeful she is about collecting the money from his will. Michael also holds out hope for a rekindling of their relationship as Illana throws him a lifeline and tells him they should move on from their past. However, Illana also seems to be in cahoots with Sam.
Everyone seems to have a distrustful eye on each other at Vito’s funeral, except for Rick, Frank and Ramon who did not attend. They walk on eggshells to try and get any information they can from one another. After the funeral, Bruce reaches out to Frank over the phone and tells him that he wants to get all the guys together to see how they can move forward from the tragedy and what they stand to gain financially. Suspicious about his proposal, Frank dashes to Ramon’s apartment. What he discovers is Ramon in bed with another man. Frank feels repulsed and betrayed but before their conversation goes any further, Bruce and Tony barge into the apartment and shoot all three of them in cold blood.
Illana meets with Sam and Michael to notify them that her stepfather has four million dollars split up and stashed away in two of his homes. Illana relates to them that she lied to Tony and Bruce about wanting to split the money with all the crew members. In actuality, she just wants to share it with them. Illana proposes that Michael meet up with a distant partner of theirs, Louscious, to take the money from one of Vito’s houses while Illana and Sam are busy putting an end to Bruce and Tony’s lives after a stop at her lawyer’s office. Sam agrees to this plan, but Michael is appalled. After a bit of convincing, he hesitantly agrees.
It all comes to a head when Rick, who was staking out Vito’s apartment, confronts Louscious and confesses to him that Bruce was tipped off about Illana’s meeting with the lawyer and that he is going to off the Asian vixen. Louscious kills Rick, however, when Louscious reports to Michael about what he was told, Michael reciprocates by murdering Louscious for careful measure. Before Bruce can get to Illana, he meets his demise as Michael sprays his car with bullets. As Michael races to Illana’s house, he sees her and Sam getting out of his car. Michael notices Sam going for his back pocket and in a frenzy, shoots his partner three times and drives away despondent. Michael crashes his car and is apprehended by police.
We go back to Michael and Olivia. He tells her that he did speak to Illana once after the tragic day when he killed Sam. Illana confesses that it was her plan to kill Vito and Sam was an accomplice to it. They enticed Tony to put the bomb under the car and framed Little Vinny to make it seem it was his plot all along. Illana also admitted that she had someone kill Tony in the end. The ultimate plan was for Michael to run away with her and to live in paradise forever. However, there were twist and turns that hindered this dream and the only paradise Michael will see is from a postcard in his jail cell where he will spend the rest of his days for the countless murders he committed over the years.
