Exiled twins use inherited hate money to build a school and coffee art lounge for their LGBTQ+ community in Texas. The Fosters + Sordid Lives + The L Word.
SYNOPSIS:
Being queer is not a choice. Twins, Rissa and Kasey, inherit their family’s hate money and decide to remodel their dead grandfather’s mansion into a school with living quarters for LGBTQ+ homeless and exiled youth. Imagine if Hogwarts birthed a muggle school solely for queer youth and that would be the June Academy. The twins build what they always dreamed and wished they had growing up in the bible belt South. In college, the twins meet Shelby, a young bi teen also from the South and the three form their own chosen family. Rissa, Kasey and Shelby are the main characters the series will primarily focus on with eight supporting characters are other roles will birth over the seasons.
This hour-long dramedy tv series is set mainly in 3 places (pilot will have several additional places). Main set is Rissa and Denise’s home with their twin girls, Sienna and Violet, that hosts weekly chosen family dinners. Common Grounds is the second set as the “it” place for all queers to gather for coffee, books, poetry slams and gatherings that is attached to the art gallery showcasing exclusive LGBTQ+ community. 2 main sets equate to lower production costs. L Word set in the South (Dallas, TX) collides with Sordid Lives drama and persecution to birth the underdog’s perseverance and healing through family that isn’t blood. The chosen family will grow through homelessness, death, cancer, and a shooting to showcase perseverance, finding healing, and become a united front to build and create for their community.
Sacred Grounds becomes a national treasure for all local and visiting LGBTQ+ and will be featured on the travel channel as a unique diamond in the South. Straight people notice how the queers have made such an uplifting impact and the energy starts to shift into full acceptance and no tolerance for hate crimes. Chosen Family was written as an ongoing tv series to showcase determination until the chosen family leaves a legacy of standing in solidarity through perseverance. This becomes a template for the world to watch unfold. Every episode will outline a discrimination, problem surrounding drama, healing through comedy laughter, adversity, change in life or perspective, deepening of friendships and family that are not blood related.
