BISMARCK
By Johny Jagannath

GENRE: War, Drama
LOGLINE:

Facing insurmountable odds, the crew of the German world war 2 battleship BISMARCK
mount a heroic fight against the British warships and go down with their colours flying.

SYNOPSIS:

In a genre where Germans are always the bad guys, “BISMARCK: Blood and Iron” seeks to turn the

genre on its head by portraying Germans as the protagonists and tells a story of a battleship whose

crew demonstrates utmost call to duty in the face of absolute peril and certain death. In the midst of

profound human suffering and tragedy, this story distinguishes itself from the typical war film

through its authentic displays of compassion. A notable instance involves a British sailor leaping into

the ocean to save a German comrade who, despite having lost both arms in battle, clings to a rope

extended by the British using only his teeth. In this poignant moment, bitter adversaries swiftly

transform into fellow human beings, extending mutual assistance in an unexpected display of

camaraderie. This is a tale of love, courage, heroism, bravery, patriotism and acts of kindness among

arch enemies whose rivalry goes well beyond world war one. At the centre of this story are our two

main protagonists, the Captain and the Chief of Fleet (Jewish) who are entrusted with an

insurmountable task of conducting commerce raids against British vessels in the Atlantic. Less than

a week into the mission the Captain, the Chief of Fleet and most of the crew die in the last battle of

BISMARCK. This tale stands as a tribute to the men who perished while dutifully serving their

country.
