GENRE: Historical, War
LOGLINE:

Hannibal Barca, newly ascended king of Carthage, launches a daring assault on his mortal enemy, the empire of Rome. With an invasion force of 100,000 soldiers, Hannibal’s forces cross the Swiss Alps mountain range and take the mighty world power by complete surprise, setting the stage for a monumental battle to determine the fate of two nations and western civilization.

SYNOPSIS:

It is an age of empires.

Carthage, a small nation on the northern tip of moder-day Africa, the days have grown dark. They have laid their king, Hamilcar, in his tomb. Their mortal enemy, Rome, extracts a heavy penance for a rebellion years ago: heir gold, their wheat, and their young men for military service. But all of this is about to change.

Hannibal, the newly-ascended king, has been raised to hate Rome, to hate what has been done to his people. Now is his time. With his wife Imilce by his side and his brother Maga as second in command, Hannibal raises an army of soldiers, battle-trained elephants and cavalry. He strikes first in Spain, ransacking a Roman garrison. No prisoners, no mercy. From here, Hannibal launches his most daring plan ever; he will cross his army through the Alps and invade the mighty Rome from the north. He will free his people by burning Rome to its foundations.

In Sicily, an urgent meeting is held. Fabius, commander of Rome’s northern legions, is informed by his co-consul and rival Longus that there are rumors of rebellion in Spain. He sends hius most trusted ally, Scipio, to investigate. After discovering the Carthaginian invasion force, Scipio follows them into the mountains with his African legions. Several battles occur as Scipio attempts to slow Hannibal down while messengers to Rome warning of the impending invasion.

After months of fighting and treacherous travel, Hannibal’s forces arrive in Rome. Behind him lay Scipio’s depleted forces. Before him stand ten thousand Roman legions. At the last grand city between the mountains and Rome herself, Zama, these armies, and these men, will decide the fate of two nations— and western civilization.

I like the idea of a movie about Hannibal. The history is interesting and you've summarised it well. But I'd like to know more about the story - what's going on for Hannibal as a protagonist, what's he having to deal with, what's his struggle? What are the personal stakes for him if he fails?

Ok, so this is about the Second Punic War, ending with the battle of Zama on Carthag ground. Could be great. But there are already two films made about Hannibal.

This is ambitious. I like ambitious. I wonder though, if the protag and specific focus could fall on Scipio. The overarching story is big but maybe we could identify with the challenge facing Scipio at the heart of the film. Also, you'll want to rewrite your synopsis as it not only has typos but grammar problems as well. Keep up the good work. You have something great to tell here.

Hi, Matthew, your logline's currently a little rambling. How about: 'Hannibal, the king of Carthage, launches a daring assault on his mortal enemy, crossing the Alps and setting the stage for a monumental battle to determine the fate of Western civilization.'
