Sal Mallimo: Writer, Animator, Producer.
Graduate of the Film School, School of Visual Arts, NYC 1970. As an artist Sal was heavily influenced by two surrealist painters, Salvador Dali and Giorgio De Chirico. His films reflect those styles. Received the Gold medal award in 1970 at the Atlanta Film Festival for Mio Mondo, his second film of the trilogy. In 1972, Sal was invited to screen Mio Mondo, at the Zagreb International Film Festival. The first film of the trilogy, produced in 1968, tilted A Time to Live, A time to Dream, A time to Die, is a 7 min. animated film. Received Second place finish in the 1969 First Esquire Magazine College Film Festival.
Sal enjoyed a 35 year film career in Film animation in NYC and operated his own animation studio from 1982-2005. Taught traditional animation methods with Claymation in 1992-2008 at The Joe Kubert School, Dover NJ. Currently Sal is doing digital coloring for the half hour animated film Baba Yaga, a Russian fairy tale being produced by Toon Workshop.
Also in 1970, Sal began writing his memoirs, Piccolo Santino, or My Calabrian Childhood in the 50’s. Then to New York Italian Style. Both projects were completed in 2020. In conclusion Piccolo Santino and the three films explain each other. Sal’s first book, A Walk in Time, Poetry from Real Life about Love and Death, was originally published in 2014 then revised and re-published in 2021. This book is an illustrated display of original poetry. Both books are currently available on Amazon.
