Who here has created their own Kickstarter campaign? Was it successful? What did you learn from it? What came from that campaign (i.e. production, networking, contacts, experience, etc.) that was most valuable to you? What advice do you have for others looking to start their first Kickstarter project?
You are so right on this. We keep re-evaluating our rewards program before our launch for that very reason. Good stuff!!!
If you're just starting out with the Crowdfunding process Stephanie, go with Indiegogo: Whatever you raise, you get (minus 9%). With Kickstarter, if you don't raise your full amount, you get nothing....

With Kickstarter, if you don't raise your full amount, you get nothing. Also, It's a process that takes a while to get all of the updates ready for. And you need to have not only a full team in place, but preferably at least 10-20 % of your goal already in place as well. You will need to 'front end load' your campaign and back end it as well.
Stephanie's question was 2 years ago. I wonder if she created a Kickstarter campaign. I wonder if she made a movie.
Me too.
I did and mine is funded but we have 5 days left! http://bit.ly/BnBRPG
I want to use footage I shot on a Sony Handicam, edit in After Effects, and produce a final 16:9 image that fills the screen. This was not previously possible. Was that problem fixed in the current version?
Was the footage shot in 16:9?
Yes, it was shot in 16:9.
Then it should fit the screen. Check your project settings to make sure that the project is a 16:9 project and that the footage is scaled accordingly.
I just release a new film. It's free and will stay that way! http://www.clayspicer.com/a-voyage.html
A distributor offered me a slave contract. Apparently, they don't like to negotiate either.
well... they take huge risks. I feel lucky to have the distribution contact (not yet contract) I have, adn he is fair to me, but tough
Hi Clay, Kaleigh Group Entertainment is now accepting films for distribution. We have traditional and Out of the Box distribution channels. We get paid commission, so there are NO up front fees. I would like to discuss this with you. Contact me if you are interested.
I heard a "script reader" rant that writers don't understand the principles of screenwriting that have been around for 2000 years. I would suggest watching, and studying, Jean-Luc Goddard's films, especially Film Socialism.
Wow, that "script reader" knows how to use hyperbole...
Do you hear people of all ages complaining about studio films? One person said they all have the gun fight, the car chase/crash, the explosion, the flying though the air and the other predictable scenes. One guy said they are all cartoons. A woman said they all have the same lines. Another said one big star can't carry a movie.
How many pages does it take to write explosions, or a gun battle or Kung Fu fight? Just curious I never write any of that. I have my own ideas about writing and what it takes to create a script or a novel.
It really depends on how important it is to you to keep the page count down on your script - sad as that may seem. My wife works as a Prod. Mgr. and her and the ADs will curse when they see a big bloc...

Mgr. and her and the ADs will curse when they see a big block of description, describing a complicated action scene that comprises a page or more of screen time. Keep in mind, generally a page is a minute of screen time. If you have one or two sentences like "Bob takes off in a car chase that leads the cops over half of Los Angeles", clearly you're cheating a bit. One thing I keep in mind, but I never hear discussed is, if a page is a minute and the old line count of a page used to be 60, then every line is a second. Something to keep in mind. Having said all that, if you break out a big action scene line by line and now it takes up three pages, a producer is going to tell you to collapse it a bit.
Anyone want to pool resources and ideas to make bigger films? I am shooting my fifth film, the fourth feature length narrative and want to advance to bigger budgets. I already have many scripts.
Hi Clay, love to help you out. I will contact you by email. Kelly
