AJ Stetson has been a photographer since a childhood encounter with a crocodile.
A drone pilot and scuba diver, AJ captures still and moving images aerially, underwater, on location and in the studio, creating portraits and short films of Cirque du Soleil performers, ballet dancers, and athletes, sea lions pups in La Paz and night skies over the Great Barrier Reef.
A dual citizen of the U.S. and Italy, AJ is also a classical singer, a voice actor, and a fitness trainer.
#MaskedNYC:
Since recovering from COVID-19 in April, AJ has created portraits of over a thousand New Yorkers wearing masks, using a telephoto lens to remain socially distanced, and always asking permission of the subjects or parents.
New York’s Governor Cuomo shared this project as the Deep Breath Moment of his email update on September 4, 2020, and the work has been in two solo and two group exhibitions in NYC, including Art on the Ave NYC, and multiple online exhibitions.
