About DA

Since I was nine years old, I always loved telling stories. It started with the written words, then evolved into feature films and television. Growing up in Sri Lanka, the world of filmmaking felt like it existed in a different galaxy entirely. So when I went to college, I studied for an undergraduate degree in psychology. During that time, I ran an online magazine covering pop culture called The Owl Magazine, submitted short stories and even became a finalist for the 2015 Sir Peter Ustinov Scriptwriting Award. In 2017, I briefly moonlighted as a film reviewer for a website called The Cinema.Com. I continued writing on the side while working full-time as a financial administrator for my family business. Recently, I started writing Comic Features for (Comic Book Resources).

In 2021, I became a freelancer in scriptwriting, content writing and creative writing. The COVID-19 pandemic opened my eyes to the realisation that I loved nothing more than writing stories and wanting to make movies that entertain and resonate with the viewer. Even though I’ve dabbled in scriptwriting before, I am determined to give it a serious chance and make it work. I may not have professional credits to my name, but I can make up for it with my deep knowledge in movies, literature, psychology and other subjects plus unwavering enthusiasm in the craft.

For my 2022 Scriptwriting Goals, I plan to write and complete 10 different scripts by the end of the year, maybe even submit them to contests or fellowships. It’s a bold gambit but in such a competitive field, timidity is a death-knell.

As the demand for creative content across the world explodes, I believe there are endless opportunities waiting to be taken. To borrow a quote from Franz Kafka: “Time is short, my strength is limited… if a pleasant, straightforward life is not possible then one must try to wriggle through by subtle manoeuvres.”

Unique traits: Reads 52-100 books and 52-100 screenplays annually. Has an unusual amount of memory space devoted to movie and TV show knowledge.
