Connecting on a university trip to Hawaii, a dreamer and a pessimist resist their feelings due to their overwhelming insecurities about love.
SYNOPSIS:
Coming from Latin heritage, HAZEL is a dutiful daughter who often helps out in her parents’ convenience store. PAX is a free spirit, parentless, but steadfast. He’s certain he knows what he wants to do with his life.
Hazel arrives late to a class and PAX helps her catch up on the module. They connect through their personalities and find that there’s a trip to Hawaii coming up run by their university. Pax is eager to go and signs up immediately. Hazel wants to go, but can’t afford to. Hazel’s grandma however gifts her the money to go on the promise that Hazel will complete her studies and graduate. Her grandma doesn’t want to see her flake out of university and sees the Hawaii trip as a great motivator.
On the trip in Hawaii Hazel and Pax connect further. They go to an apiary where Pax comedically admits his great fear of bees. During their time apart, Pax meets and mixes with a local Samoan tribe. Hazel allows herself to drink and party with her friends. Pax daringly joins the Samoans for a slap-dance, performing in front of the other students. Hazel learns more about him and what he learns of her is that she runs (literally) at the mention of marriage.
Pax feels like he’s blown his chances, but thinks it’s probably for the best, regarding Hazel as being out of his league. Hazel returns home to find that her parents have split up. However, she soon realizes that they’re both happier apart. Her grandma tells her that some marriages are everlasting simply because of convenience. But the best marriages work well when there is trust, respect and love.
Hazel seeks out Pax admitting that she loves him. They finally kiss and become a couple in this warm and emotive RomCom.
